The Door Stop LLC is a wood door manufacturer and a distributer located in Calrstadt, New Jersey. The information provided here is designed to acquaint you with some of the important procedures required in storing, handling, finishing, and installing the doors you have received. Attention to the key elements outlined here will help to assure your satisfaction and the long term, trouble-free operation of our quality products.
INSPECTING DOORS:
All doors must be inspected thoroughly by the installer before installation. The Door Stop LLC does not warrant doors installed with a defect that was obvious prior to installation. All doors should be inspected for freight damage upon receipt and before forwarding. Any observed damage must be noted on the delivery receipt and The Door Stop LLC should be notified immediately. Failure to follow this procedure may lead to claim denial by the shipper and/or carrier.
STORING DOORS:
Do not deliver or install doors until building is enclosed, wet work is complete and HVAC system is operating and maintaining temperature and relative humidity at occupancy levels during the remainder of the construction period. Recommended conditions are 25-55% Relative humidity and 50-90 Degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity levels over or under the ones specified here may cause permanent damage and will void the Warranty.
Do not store doors in damp areas or in freshly plastered buildings. Storage space should be dry and well ventilated. If the doors are to be stored more than a few days, all edges should be sealed with a nonwater based Sealer or primer.
Stack doors flat on carefully leveled supports. We recommend a support of three 2 X 4’s placed the full width of the doors, one across the center and two 12” from each end, covered with a sheet of plywood or heavy cardboard to protect the face of the bottom door. The top door should be covered in a similar manner.
HANDLING DOORS:
Handle doors with clean canvas gloves. Bare hands leave finger marks and soil stains. When moving doors, carry them. Do not drag. If dragging is absolutely necessary, do so only on the bottom end and protect it with scuff strips or skid shoes. Never drag one door across another.
FITTING HOLLOW, PARTICLE, AND STAVE “LSL” CORE DOORS:
While it is best not to cut doors to fit openings smaller than those for which they are manufactured, the following guidelines should be followed when trimming is necessary. When planning to fit, trim equally from both sides. Do not trim more than 3/8” off each edge. If the total height must be reduced more than 3/4”, trim equally from the top and bottom but never more than 3/4” from either end.
Carefully seal all four edges immediately after fitting, including areas routed for hardware. We recommend beveling both edges at the rate of 1/8” in 2” so proper clearance can be maintained. Jambs must be plumb and square, and doors should be hung so they will operate freely and without tension. To allow for swelling of the door during extremely damp weather, leave approximately 1/8” clearance at each side and at the top.
FITTING FIRE-RATED DOORS:
All Door Stop LLC fire-rated doors must be machined by our company or other certified machinists. Whenever possible, order doors factory-fit. This requires less trimming and leaves more edge-banding material to hold the hardware. The standard location for Warnock Hersey fire-rated door labels is on the hinge stile of the door.
Do not remove the label. It identifies the door as firerated.
Do not trim the top end of any fire-rated door.
Do not trim the lock stile of any Fire-rated “pair” door Door Stop LLC. fire-rated doors are manufactured ¼ “under nominal width and ¾” under nominal height. If fitting is necessary, trim equally from both sides.
Do not reduce the total door width by more than 3/16” overall.
For height, a maximum of ¾” from bottom of the door. Bevel the lock edge at the approximate rate of 1/8” in 2” so the proper clearance can be maintained. Jambs must be plumb and square and doors hung so they will operate freely and without tension.
Maximum clearances recommended by the National Fire Protection are 1/8” at top and ¾” at edges and bottom.
